The Nothing Phone (2): A New Era of Premium Smartphones

Design and Display

After a rather interesting stream of leaks and official teasers, Nothing has finally launched its highly awaited second smartphone, the Phone (2), in India and global markets. As one might expect, the device brings along the attractive Glyph Interface on a semi-transparent chassis and specs that scream premium to take on rivals like OnePlus, Oppo, and Samsung, to name a few. Let’s delve into the details of this remarkable phone.

Semi-Transparent Design

Past rumors followed by an official revelation have already told us about the semi-transparent “Nothing” design, which is also seen with last year’s Phone (1). The Phone (2) comes in a new dark gray color, along with the white option. The Glyph Interface, an amalgamation of multiple LED lights, has also been upgraded. Instead of one strip running around the camera hump and the wireless charging coil, it has been broken up. Additionally, there’s a new red alert strip on the right side. This interface makes notifications fun as the light glows whenever there’s an app/call notification. It can also be customized for important apps to stay on top of the notifying game.

Breathtaking Display

The front of the Phone (2) features a bigger 6.7-inch flexible OLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, thanks to LTPO technology. It is centrally placed, replacing the corner punch-hole design. The display boasts of 1600 nits of peak brightness, HDR10+ support, 10-bit colors, and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. The glass back is slightly curved, providing better grip and ease of usage.

Nothing OS 2.0

The Nothing Phone (2) runs on the Android 13-based Nothing OS 2.0, a new version of Nothing’s skin. Nothing OS 2.0 focuses on customizations and offers interesting and refreshing elements such as monochrome app icons, lock screen app shortcuts, folder size and layout customization, and Nothing-made widgets. The Phone (2) will receive three years of major software updates and four years of security updates.

Camera Excellence

The Nothing Phone (2) doesn’t prioritize the number of cameras and features a powerful duo at the back. It houses a 50MP main snapper with a Sony IMX890 sensor and OIS/EIS support, as well as a 50MP ultra-wide lens with the Samsung JN1 sensor and EIS support. The front shooter stands at an impressive 32MP, upgraded from the Phone (1)’s 16MP. With an 18-bit ISP and advanced HDR and camera features like 2x Super-Res Zoom, 4K videos at 60fps, Night mode, and Portrait mode, you can capture stunning photos for social media.

Packed with Powerful Specs

The Nothing Phone (2) is equipped with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, allowing for up to 80% improved performance compared to the Phone (1). It also offers up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The phone boasts a larger 4,700mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, along with 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging capabilities.
