Intel Meteor Lake Desktop CPUs: Coming Soon in 2024
Intel recently held their Innovation 2023 event, where they showcased their new 14th-gen Meteor Lake CPUs along with the new Core Ultra branding. In this article, we will delve into the details of the upcoming Meteor Lake processors and their arrival in laptops. However, let’s now shift our focus to the latest information about the Intel 14th-Gen Meteor Lake desktop CPUs, as revealed in an interview with PCWorld.
Intel Meteor Lake Desktop CPUs are Coming Soon!
Michelle Johnston Holthaus, the Executive VP of Client Computing at Intel, provided insights into the company’s future strategy during the interview with PCWorld. Although Intel did not disclose any plans related to the 14th-Gen desktop CPUs during the event, the interview shed light on the timeline for Meteor Lake’s arrival on the desktop CPU platform.
When asked about the possibility of ‘Meteor Lake’ coming to desktops, the Intel VP confirmed that it will be happening in 2024. This announcement affirms Intel’s intention to introduce the Meteor Lake architecture to desktop CPUs next year. The interview further included a question from PCWorld, asking for confirmation regarding the development of Meteor Lake desktop CPUs, to which the Intel VP responded with a confident ‘Yes’.
Additionally, the Intel spokesperson stated that the company plans to maintain a common processor family for both desktop and laptop segments. However, the release dates of Meteor Lake CPUs for desktop and laptop platforms are expected to differ significantly. It is more likely that Meteor Lake will be integrated into the 15th-generation of Intel desktop CPUs, as the new Intel 14th-generation desktop CPUs are set to release in 2023 itself, rather than the following year.
Intel Raptor Lake Refresh Coming Before Meteor Lake: Leaks
According to leaks and insider information, Intel’s plans involve the introduction of Meteor Lake for desktop CPUs in 2024. However, the spokesperson’s timeline possibly refers to a release in late 2024. In the near future, we can anticipate the arrival of new 14th-Gen desktop CPUs as we approach the fourth quarter of 2023. These CPUs are likely to be constructed on the “Raptor Lake Refresh” architecture, which represents an overclocked version of the existing 13th-Gen CPUs.
In recent benchmark tests, the Intel Core i9-14900KF, an i9 chip from the 14th-Gen series, claimed the top spot in the PassMark Single-Core Test. Moreover, another i9 variant was spotted in the Cinebench 2024 benchmark. These developments indicate the progress Intel has made in the development of the next-generation desktop CPUs.
It is worth mentioning that Intel had previously launched the 12th-Gen Alder Lake CPUs in late 2021, followed by the release of the 13th-Gen Raptor Lake CPUs in late 2022. Therefore, the imminent arrival of the 14th-Gen CPUs is highly anticipated. Leaks suggest that these new CPUs will feature the “Raptor Lake Refresh” architecture. Intel is expected to release these processors in late 2023, as evidenced by BIOS updates from motherboard manufacturers that mention support for the next-generation Intel processors on existing LGA 1700 motherboards.
A previous leak by MSI corroborated the rumors surrounding the Raptor Lake Refresh architecture for Intel desktop CPUs. The leak also provided performance details for upcoming CPUs such as the Core i9-14900K and Core i7-14700K, among others. Intel has already demonstrated the 14th-Gen desktop CPUs with the Raptor Lake Refresh architecture, and further information on these CPUs will be made available soon.
If you’re in the market for a new desktop CPU, you may be contemplating whether to wait for the Intel Meteor Lake CPUs or upgrade to the rumored refreshed Raptor Lake architecture. We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
