Airtel Completes Rollout of 26GHz 5G Spectrum in India
Airtel Rolls Out 26GHz 5G Spectrum
Airtel, one of the leading telecom operators in India, has recently completed the rollout of its 26GHz 5G spectrum in the country. This announcement comes shortly after Jio, another major telecom player, announced its own rollout of the 26GHz spectrum. Airtel’s rollout covers 22 telecom circles, just like Jio’s, and complies with the regulations set by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Last year, during the spectrum auctions, Airtel acquired a significant amount of 19,867 MHz spectrum.
The introduction of mmWave 5G spectrum will bring about faster speeds, enhancing the overall user experience of Airtel’s 5G Plus network. Airtel aims to leverage the opportunities offered by the 26 GHz band to continue driving innovation and providing the ultimate 5G Plus experiences for its customers.
The 26GHz mmWave band is known for its high frequency, making it ideal for delivering faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and low latency. While primarily designed for businesses, it allows a greater number of people to benefit from these advanced capabilities.
Airtel initiated testing of the 26GHz mmWave and 3300 MHz bands in West Bengal, while Jio carried out similar tests in Gujarat. Airtel launched its 5G services in October last year and has gained approximately 10 million users since then. The network is available in around 3500 cities across India. Airtel has also introduced unlimited 5G Plus options along with its existing plans to attract more users.
